Common Hazards

Every day our engineers come across hazardous or, frankly, life-threatening situations in people’s homes.  Here are just a few of the gas and electrical problems found and photographed by gas-elec engineers during actual inspections.

Failed boiler
A regular service would have discovered & repaired the water leak that destroyed this boiler. When was yours last serviced?
Not horn streaks from gas fire
Not horns: streaks caused by poisonous carbon monoxide fumes leaking out of this fire.
Illegal gas flue installation
This boiler flue, crammed up against the porch, prevented contracts being exchanged on the house and substantially delayed its sale. “Who built the porch?” asked our inspector. “My brother-in-law,” came the sheepish reply.
Cowboy gas and electrical installation
A fine example of ‘cowboy’ gas and electrical installation.
Coal effect gas fire problems
An example of the horrors that can lurk behind the façade of a coal-effect gas fire. When was yours last serviced?
Bathroom appliance hazards
“Not sure which is more hazardous,” said our engineer, “someone touching the heater whilst in the shower or the heater setting fire to the plastic shower curtain!”
Burned out wiring in light socket
This is why the light wouldn’t turn off or, if it did, the fuse blew!
illegal shaver socket installation
Shaver socket illegally installed too close to a shower.
